Seth finds himself alone at an abandoned train station, with no idea what happened, or how he got there. He boards a train, only to discover it’s a special express transporting the recently deceased to their final destination. The conductor tells him he’s having a near-death experience. Seth wonders if it has something to do with his violent boyfriend, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is getting the hell off the train before he actually dies. But when he spots his best friend and secret crush among the traveling dead, the urge to leave fades...

For Never and Always Ana J Phoenix Books

For Never and Always is the best book I’ve read in a while. This made the whole experience refreshing despite the somewhat heavier themes that were discussed inside.

The idea might not be unique but it was handled and elaborated in such a great way that I couldn’t put the book down for hours.

I’m not a fan of friends-to-lovers generally but in this case, the author has crafted the relationship and emotions between Seth and Carter so well that they seemed completely real and made you want root for them. The underlying tragedy added bitterness to the sweetness of a love found in a time that wasn’t right at all. Or every time is right for such love?

There were a lot of serious topics touched on but never in the didactic way I’m so tired of. They were entwined in the plot and the story in the best way possible to make you feel and think. I wish there were more books like this one in the romance genre!

If you only enjoy fluff and escapist romances this is maybe not the book for you.

Still, For Never and Always is a book I’d always recommend as one of my favorites.

For Never and Always Ana J Phoenix Books Reviews

The writung was good, the characters were relatable, there was not a long timeframe, but pacing was good and character development was reasonable in the short period they had. I laughed and cried and felt very satisfied at the ending. Overall nothing epic, but still resonated with me for quite a while after finishing the book.
I really enjoyed this tale. It is such a beautiful idea and the author has done very well in bringing it to life.
I really wish there were more books like this in the genre.
If you are looking for something deeper than a puddle then I fully recommend this story.
This has to be in my top 5 of most thought provoking books I have ever read. Seth and Carter , friends since kindergarten, protect each other by keeping a secret from the other. Each secret , and then some, all come out in a most unexpected place. One life will be saved and a lost soul will have reason to wait for what he has longed for. NOT a traditional romance by any means, but a must read none the less.
Talk about an emotional roller coaster.
I'll admit I was very uncertain about reading this when I first started. But as it had ranked well in the Rainbow Awards 2016 I deccided to give it a go.
So very glad I did. It's a beautiful story and while I spent nearly the entire book crying, I will happily read it again. (Ok maybe once I have recovered!) LOL
Ana is a new author to me but I will certainly be hunting down more of her works. Very glad I found her.
I have to say the blurb and sneak peak was really enticing. It was so different from so many other usual trope-y books out there that it really reeled me in. I kept thinking, how can this have a happy ending when one of them is dead! I have to say it was a beautiful resolution.

One other reason why it got me right in the feels was, we have a death in the family. Just today. I was on chapter 11 when I was told. So finishing off the book was more emotional than expected. Sniff...
The writing pulled me in and kept me from page 1 to the end. The characters were loveable and understandable. Even if reader had never been in either characters shoes, they'll still GET it. I love how secondary characters helped mold the story and the situations. So.... Realistic.

To me, it felt like we all have been on that train perhaps in a real dream, a past life in between, an Astral journey .... It just seemed real to me. Legit. Like "this is precisely how it goes". And with topics like this, where no one truly knows the true answers and facts, it's too easy to believe that yup. The train is it.
“Endings are not always bad. Most times they're just beginnings in disguise.” - Kim Harrison, Something Deadly This Way Comes

Seth wakes up not on his own bed but in a train station in the middle of nowhere. He does not remember how he got there and why. A black train seems to beckon him inside and when he gets aboard, Seth's amazing foray into the afterlife begins...

What an incredible experience this had been reading about Seth, his best friend Carter, the conductor, the passengers on the weird train, the ghostly manifestations among the grasslands and Seth's boyfriend Tony. I was hooked from the first few sentences and I knew I had a winner in my hands after I was done.

Author Ana J. Phoenix came up with a fascinating, unique storyline and I was more than impressed. I was also entranced. Through the characters, Ms. Phoenix's intimations on life, second chances and death/immortality were spelled out in simple prose that was haunting, poignant and sweet in all the right places. Although the book deals much with dying/death, I did not get the impression of anything horrifying about it. On the contrary, the tone was rather hopeful - even insightful.

Initially, I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of the manuscript and I liked it so much that I just had to have my own copy when it was released yesterday. Moreover, I would not be surprised if this novel is ranked among the best 2016 MM romance books with a supernatural twist.

I highly recommend this book and I invite you to go on a train ride with Seth and Carter. It would be one unforgettable journey worth your while.
